5 Film Directors Who Were Fired On Set

It’s the height of ignominy: you’ve shepherded a movie into production, are shooting with the cast and crew when suddenly you’re asked to go for a meeting upstairs where you get the boot.

But for all directors who fear they might be next, don’t worry – it’s happened to the best of them.

Richard Donner – ‘Superman II’ (1980)

Donner’s firing from the second ‘Superman’ was a sad and baffling decision considering the first one (he’d shot the films back-to-back, pausing on the second while the first one was released) was such a smash hit critically and commercially.

But wrangling and arguments with the producers, particularly over Marlon Brando’s wage bill, meant that Donner was ditched for Richard Lester, a decent director who was better known for comedic movies like ‘A Hard Day’s Night’.

That meant Donner’s expert handling of tone was ignored and the majority of the film was reshot much to the chagrin of the cast. The original helmer finally got to unveil his cut of the movie in 2006.

Richard Stanley – ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ (1996)

Australian Stanley was a talented prospect with a gift for the visually striking when he signed up to bring HG Wells’s book to the big screen.

Four years of development followed. But when it came to shoot, he wasn’t used to dealing with Hollywood egos, particularly Val Kilmer whose strange behaviour and refusal to follow direction led to Stanley’s firing after just three days of production.

And that’s not even counting Marlon Brando and his creative choice to wear a bucket on his head.

Seasoned pro John Frankenheimer (‘The Manchurian Candidate’) came on board and also clashed with his stars, while the absence of a script meant the cast were frequently adlibbing entire scenes.

It essentially torpedoed Stanley’s career, though he did manage to watch his dream project being filmed – by sneaking back onto set and getting the make-up department to cover him in prosthetics so he could appear as a human-animal hybrid extra. It was that kind of movie.

James Cameron – ‘Piranha II: The Spawning’ (1981)

Cameron himself has called it the “finest flying piranha movie ever made”. But while the film has subsequently been credited to the ‘Avatar’ director, it’s difficult to know exactly how much of this debut effort was actually his.

Emerging from the Roger Corman stable, Cameron was fired from the film by its producer Ovidio Assinitis, who himself directed some of it, before the neophyte director broke into the edit suite to try and finish his cut where he was caught and told to skedaddle.

Brenda Chapman – ‘Brave’ (2012)

Chapman was supposed to be Pixar’s first female feature director and it was she who developed the story of a young Scottish girl and her mother from her own idea.

But she ended up being taken off the movie a year before it was released – during production in animation terms – for reasons that remain a bit opaque.

It’s one of the few blips in the mostly excellent history of Pixar, especially when Chapman spoke out against her former employers, accusing animation of being a boys club (she was replaced by a man).

Jason Reitman To Direct DreamWorks Animation Beekle

Director Jason Reitman will helm a new animation for DreamWorks by the name of ‘Beekle’.

The ‘Labor Day’ and ‘Juno’ director will take charge of an adaptation of Dan Santat’s ‘The Adventures Of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend’, which is about an imaginary friend who looks for a child to befriend.

It’ll require a different approach to a lot of his previous content, including ‘Thank You For Smoking’, which is aimed towards mature cinema goers, with ‘Beekle’ predominantly for a younger audience with its children-friendly tale.

In fact, it was Reitman who stumbled upon the idea of an adaptation when he found the book while shopping one day.

“I was book shopping with my daughter, when a little tooth-shaped character in a paper crown stole our hearts,” he recalls. “His name was Beekle, and I’m honoured to now be adapting Santat’s charming story into a feature film. I’m particularly proud to be working with DreamWorks Animation, makers of ‘Kung Fu Panda’, the first film my daughter ever saw on the big screen.”

With a number of other projects competing for his attention, such as ‘The Possibilities’ and ‘I Would Only Rob Banks For My Family’, it’s currently unknown when we can expect to see this hit cinemas. With it being animation, it’ll likely take a number of years to materialise, but we’re likely to hear a lot more in the coming months once pre-production properly begins.

Tron 3 Has Been Put On Hold

It looks as though Disney has pulled the plug on the upcoming ‘Tron’ sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ambitious sci-fi sequel has been unplugged… and we shouldn’t expect them to pick the project back up anytime soon.

“Tron 3 won’t be coming to a theater near you,” they revealed. “Disney has chosen not to move forward with a third installment in the sci-fi series, sources say.”

“While sources say the project was never officially greenlit, earlier this year it seemed that things were moving ahead with Tron: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski returning to direct and stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund reprising their roles.”

Of course, there were plenty of rumours surrounding the now-cancelled ‘Tron’ sequel… and while it seems that Disney was looking to resurrect the powered-down franchise, Variety says they just couldn’t find room on their already rather hefty slate.

“We had never greenlit the movie, but it was in development for some time,” said a Disney executive, on their decision to shelve ‘Tron 3’. “Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, ‘Where does it go?’ And it’s a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it.”

But that doesn’t mean the project had never gotten off the ground.

“Prep had been started on the third film, and production was looking to shoot this fall, likely in Vancouver, British Columbia,” explained THR. “Disney had been interested in adding Jared Leto to the cast, but an offer and negotiations had never commenced.”

Unfortunately, it looks as though we won’t get to see Jared Leto downloaded onto the internet superhighway any time soon. And for now, it seems that ‘Tron 3’ has been shelved.

Tilda Swinton Enters Talks For Doctor Strange

It looks as though ‘Doctor Strange’ has just got even stranger… as Tilda Swinton enters talks for a leading role opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the enigmatic 54-year-old British actress has been linked to the role of the Ancient One – a mystical mentor to Doctor Strange himself.

“Tilda Swinton is on her way to the Marvel Universe,” they revealed. “The actress is in negotiations to join Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange, being directed by Scott Derrickson.”

“The actress is negotiations to portray the Ancient One,” they explain, “the Tibetan mystic who is a mentor to Dr. Strange.”

Of course, fans of the comic books will know all about the Ancient One – a 500-year-old Tibetan man who was once named as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, before handing the title to Dr. Stephen Strange.

Acting as a mentor and guide, the Ancient One teaches Doctor Strange everything he knows about the mystical arts… He even passes some of his most powerful relics to the good doctor, including the Eye of Agamotto.

But will Tilda Swinton prove to be the right fit for the role?

I can’t help thinking that this casting choice is a stroke of genius. After all, Marvel is often criticised for their lack of strong female roles… so putting Tilda Swinto as one of the most powerful beings on the planet will certainly help tip the balance back in their favour.

And let’s face it – Tilda Swinton is just brilliant.

Having appeared in as number of rather eclectic movies, her most recent have included ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Zero Theorem’. And while she’s certainly drawn to some of the stranger films in Hollywood, perhaps that’s what has inevitably led to this rather mystical role.

via yahoo.com

And then here’s her experience in comic book movies.

That’s right – she’s already appeared on screen in a comic book role before – starring opposite Keanu Reeves in the 2005 DC adaptation, ‘Constantine’. Starring as the Archangel Gabriel, she shared some of the best scenes of the entire film, opposite Peter Stormare’s Satan.

But will she lend a touch of gravitas to ‘Doctor Strange’? We certainly hope so.

‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 28 October 2016.

Dwayne Johnson Tells Us The Secret To His Success

Dwayne Johnson is a pretty inspirational guy.

He’s gone from being jobbing wrestler to a Hollywood A-Lister with millions of social media followers seemingly on the basis of his irresistible charm alone. However, when we caught up with him to talk about his new disaster movie ’San Andreas’, he revealed that the secret to his success lies in his “borderline crazy” dedication to to his craft.

“There really is no substitute for hard work,” Dwayne explained when we asked for career advice.

- The Rock Reveals Secret To Crying On Screen

- Conan Sequel Details

“You have GOT to put in the time and the hours and - by the way - this is where it gets a little a wonky and it’s borderline crazy, where you might have to see a psychiatrist. When you push yourself when no-one else is around, when you’re by yourself, the time and commitment you put in, that’s when you start to lay the groundwork for success.

"Or, the groundwork to be a maniac. Cause you’re doing a lot of things by yourself!”

In his new movie ‘San Andreas’ the actor formerly known as The Rock plays a helicopter rescue pilot who does whatever it takes to save his family from a monster quake that rocks the West Coast of America.

It’s an inspirational role for the star who’s been vocal about his support for the emergency services while on the campaign trail for his new film, but it’s The Rock himself that we here at Yahoo Movies draw our inspiration from.

8 Movies That Ended Marriages

In Hollywood, by far the most common reason for married couples splitting is infidelity. We don’t want to condone the actions of any movie star that ditches their other half for someone else, but… when you’re working with some of the world’s most beautiful people, extended “lunch breaks” in your co-star’s trailer sure must be tempting…

Here’s a round-up of some of the most controversial film star dalliances that paid for Hollywood divorce lawyers’ Hawaiian holidays down the years.

'Mr & Mrs Smith' (2005) - Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie

Perhaps the most famous example of what we’re talking about here is the creation of ‘Brangelina’. Angelina Jolie already had a bit of a reputation in her personal life and was instantly blamed by everyone for her affair with Brad Pitt.

Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez wrap on Fast and Furious 7

Well it's certainly been emotional. After delays, setbacks and the horrific death of Paul Walker to contend with, 'Fast and Furious 7' has finally wrapped. Director James Wan tweeted confirmation that he had just finished filming with stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez on July 10th. Universal also delivered an emotional message to the fans through the 'Fast and Furious' Facebook page.

It has been a very rocky ride for all involved in 'Fast and Furious 7' and both James Wan and Universal have called it 'emotional'. The loss of Paul Walker almost meant that the film would have to be scrapped, but fortunately for the fans, James Wan has led his team to completing the film which will now be released in April 2015.

James Wan

After Justin Lin, the director of the previous four films in the franchise, decided not to return for 'Fast and Furious 7', director James Wan of 'Saw' and 'The Conjuring' fame stepped in to drive the series forwards. Yesterday, he tweeted '...about to cross the finishing line. #F7' and then posted a photo of himself with Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, with the caption '...and I (literally) just wrapped out my two main leads - Vin & Michelle. ThankU for this amazing, emotional journey'. Seven hours later, Wan confirmed that all filming was now complete, tweeting 'AND THAT'S A WRAAAAPPP!!!!!!!! Principal photography for Fast & Furious 7 is officially over.'

Thanks

Wan then went on to acknowledge the difficulties that he and his stars and crew had faced over the shoot. His next tweet said simply 'THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, to all my cast & crew, for making it thru the toughest shoot of all our careers. Love you all so much'. When Paul Walker died in November, production had to shut down while all involved had to figure out how they would carry on without him. It was only with the help of Walker's brothers Cody and Caleb, that shooting was able to resume.

Family

Universal also paid homage to the fans saying that 'We felt the love and strength from our fans throughout this journey, and it's because of you that we got here.' They also acknowledged the toll Walker's death had taken on both the individuals involved, as well the production. 'Our family is big and strong but it won't ever quite be whole again without Paul. All of us -- those who've been here from the start and those whose first FAST film is 7 -- wanted to create a special film for him and for you. We believe we have.' Let's hope that the end result is a worthy send off for Paul Walker, and that it isn't too long before we get to see a trailer.

Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez pay tribute to Paul Walker

Fast and Furious 7' stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez have both left emotional messages on social networking sites, as the film production finally wraps. Both stars left short tributes to their deceased co-star Paul Walker, who was tragically killed in a car accident in November 2013.

The production of 'Fast and Furious 7' has been a huge undertaking from start to finish. The shooting schedule was already short enough for 'Fast and Furious 6' director Justin Lin to drop out. Then 'Saw' director James Wan stepped in, but half way through filming, Paul Walker died while on a break from filming. After the production shut down, the script was rewritten and the release date changed, production resumed earlier this year and has just wrapped in July.

Vin Diesel

The shocking death of Walker must have taken a huge toll on all involved in the production. Diesel had worked on four 'Fast and Furious ' films with the late star and was clearly uncertain about whether 'Fast and Furious 7' could go on without Walker. On his Facebook page, which Diesel often uses to keep in touch with fans, he wrote: 'Fast Seven is wrapped! A life changing experience. None of it would have been possible without you... the strength, conviction and confidence came from you, and I know together, we have made Pablo proud.' Pablo is his nickname for co-star Paul Walker, and making him proud has been a key theme in Diesel's commitment to the project and messages to the fans.

Michelle Rodriguez

On her Instagram account, Michelle Rodriguez who plays Letty in the series, wrote 'Ride or Die through thick and thin 15 yrs later surreal to think we made it through such a tough painful production. But this ones for you P I hope we make you proud love you'. Accompanied by a photo of Diesel and Rodriguez, it again makes reference to the difficulties in completing the film without their beloved co-star.

Wrap

Now that the film is finished, director James Wan will be getting locked down in a dark editing room with his editor(s) and getting the film ready for release on April 3rd 2015. With all the footage in the can, there is bound to be a trailer coming in the not too distant future. Universal will be praying for big things from the seventh entry in the franchise as the production has cost a great deal due to the unforeseen issues that had to be overcome after Walker's death. 'Fast and Furious 6' made nearly $800 million at the worldwide box office. The question is, can 'Fast and Furious 7' top it?

Source: www.yahoo.com

Why there will definitely be a Fast and Furious 8

Ever since 'Fast and Furious 7' was first announced, there have been rumours that it would be the first part in what could be considered a third 'Fast and Furious' trilogy. That means that fans can buckle up for three more 'Fast and Furious' films before the franchise potentially finishes in 'Fast and Furious 9'.

But then came the tragic death of Paul Walker in a car crash midway through filming 'Fast and Furious 7', and suddenly the future of the franchise was put in jeopardy. There has recently been one report that 'Fast and Furious 7' may actually be the last film in the franchise. However, even without the star power and fan love of Paul Walker to ensure the franchise stays afloat, here are three reasons there will definitely be a 'Fast and Furious 8'.

Characters

As much as fans love Paul Walker and his character Brian, there are plenty of other much beloved characters to take the story forward. Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and newcomers Kurt Russell and Jason Statham are all in 'Fast and Furious 7' making it one of the most jam packed casts in recent memory. Even without Brian, the adventures of Dom and Letty could go on for a few more films, particularly if they keep adding such quality stars to the ever expanding cast.

Brian

The producers of 'Fast and Furious 7' have spent a considerable sum of money completing the film after Walker's death. Paul's brothers Cody and Caleb were drafted in, and the decision was reportedly made to have Brian retire rather than being killed off. Now that 'Fast and Furious 7' will be about Brian's retirement from the 'family', there are plenty of directions that the next instalment can take. 'Fast 7' may be a tribute to Paul Walker, but the franchise is likely to come out stronger on the other side.

Money

Let's not forget that 'Fast and Furious 7' is a commercial product made by Universal Studios in order to incur a huge profit. 'Fast and Furious 6' was the biggest earner of the entire franchise so far and the next instalment is likely to be even bigger. With many of the fans of the franchise thinking that the films are getting better and better, business is bound to be good. Add to that, the morbid fascination that people will have with seeing Paul Walker's final performance, and 'Fast and Furious 7' is guaranteed to do better at the box office than any of its predecessors. With huge profits come greater pressure for a sequel, and Universal will likely be far from furious as they speed the next film into production.

Vin Diesel Reveals Fast & Furious Breakdancing Skills

We all know that action star Vin Diesel has got the moves when it comes to fight scenes, but did you know that he’s also an incredible breakdancer?

A video of the ‘Fast & Furious 7’ actor - back in the 80s when he was known as plain old Mark Sinclair - has been unearthed showing Vin busting out some incredible breakdancing moves in what looks like an instructional video for aspiring breakers.

Watch it above.

Diesel, kitted out in customary breakdancing attire of Adidas tracksuit, sweatband, and box-fresh sneakers, reveals previously unseen dexterity by popping and locking to 'Krush Groovin’ by Krush Groove All Stars alongside a pal wearing matching gear.

Even more shocking than Vin’s moves is the presence of hair on the famously bald star’s head.

“I used to breakdance at Columbus Circle and Washington Square Park,” Diesel recently shared on Live With Kelly and Michael, “It was my first gig.”

Why has he never used his dance skills on screen before? C'mon Vin, give the fans what they want: 'Fast and Furious 8: Electric Boogaloo’.

Jupiter Ascending Gets A Roasting From Honest Trailers

Is it just us, or are the Honest Trailers lot getting more and more brutal?

Last week we marvelled at the excellent take down of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, which was a thoroughly merciless affair.

- Batman V Superman ‘honest teaser’ skewers DC

- Fifty Shades lashed in Honest Trailer

- Why Jupiter Ascending is bad for the future of movies

Now they’ve taken aim at 'Jupiter Ascending’, the Wachowski’s baffling space opera that, depending who you speak to, may have done actual harm to the future of the film industry.

It certainly did actual harm to Warner Bros, who funded the sci-fi cheese dream.

It cost $176 million (£113 million) to make, and only brought in $182 million (£117 million) production budget, meaning that it will have a made a huge loss after promotion and marketing costs.

Mila Kunis plays toilet cleaner Jupiter Jones, who discovers she is in fact the rightful heir and ruler of the Earth. Things go downhill from there.

But it’s best if the Honest Trailers people pick it up.

George Clooney: Original Blockbusters Are Now Very Rare

The notoriously picky George Clooney has explained to Yahoo why he’s returned to blockbuster movies with his new project ‘Tomorrowland: A World Beyond’.

“I like the idea of [doing] a summer film that is not a sequel or based on a comic book and that is a real risk to take and I wanted to do that,” said the actor, who was last on our screens way back at the start of 2014 with ‘The Monuments Men’, which he also directed.

10 Sci-fi films To Watch In 2015

‘Tomorrowland’ is a big budget science fiction romp based on the Disney theme park attraction from the 1960s. Unlike almost every other summer blockbuster film this year it’s not part of an existing franchise.

The film also addresses themes such as wealth inequality and global warming, which we assumed was the reason the famously liberal Clooney signed up for the role.

“No it wasn’t! The major reason I wanted to work on the film was to work with [director] Brad Bird, because I think he makes wonderful films and he called me up and ‘said I’ve written this part for you, would you like to do it’, and I read it and said ‘well this’ll be fun’.

“I like the idea of the themes, that the future can be adjusted by the people now, if you participate you have the ability to change it. I grew up believing that. But it wasn’t the reason.”

Bird, who previously directed ‘The Incredible’, ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ and ‘The Iron Giant’, apparently turned down the chance to direct the new ‘Star Wars’ film to make ‘Tomorrowland’.

“I don’t know anybody else [making original blockbusters],” said Clooney. “I remember when ‘The Matrix’ came out a few years ago – how unusual that was - and that wasn’t a big budget film, comparatively. To see something new and original was really wild. It’s getting to be a very rare bird.”

In our chat with Clooney he also addressed his infamous head wobble (see below), told us about his pranks on set and gave us his favourite line from ‘Batman and Robin’.

Paul Walker's daughter Meadow shares touching throwback photo with late actor

Paul Walker's daughter Meadow has shared a touching throwback photo of her smiling as she sits with her dad.

Meadow can be seen closing her eyes and flashing a toothy grin as she poses with the late Fast and Furious star.

The 16-year-old posted the poignant snap after recently returning from Coachella, where she showed she remains part of the Fast and Furious

family as she posted a picture of her hanging with Vin Diesel and Elsa Pataky.

Elsa, who stars in the franchise, and is also wife to Chris Hemsworth, put her arm around Meadow as the group came in for the fun shot.

Meadow, who has been spotted letting her hair down at the festival in Indio, California, lived with her dad for two years before his tragic death.

She now lives with her mother Rebecca Soteros, and attended the latest instalment’s premiere in Los Angeles last week with her family.

Late actor Paul - who tragically died in a car crash in November 2013 aged just 40 - filmed a number of scenes for the seventh instalment of the franchise before his death and his brother Cody thinks Paul would have loved the end result.

He said: "I wasn't nervous to see it. I was more anxious to see how it turned out.

"It's bittersweet, but I think Paul would be proud."

‘Furious 8′ to Debut April 14, 2017

Choking back tears, Diesel told the crowd of theater owners, “It means a lot to me to get your blessing.” He took the audience back to two years ago when, on the same stage at Caesars Palace, Diesel and Paul Walker, the actor who died in a 2013 car crash, said they planned to move forward on a seventh film in the action franchise.

“We were giddy and excited,” said Diesel. “You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love.”

At various points after Walker’s shocking death, it seemed that Universal might have to cancel the production. Shooting was not yet complete when the crash happened, but special effects technicians and stunt doubles enabled the completion of the project, resulting in what domestic distribution chief Nick Carpou termed “a cathartic experience for fans of Walker.”

Just before Diesel made his announcement, footage screened of the final moment of “Furious 7, “a scene in which the two characters go on one final car race before going their separate ways.

“You’ve been so loyal all along,” Diesel told exhibitors. “You helped us create history here.”

“Furious 7″ has hit $1.15 billion at the worldwide box office, making it No.7 on the list of highest-grossing films of all time. It’s likely to end up with more than $1.4 billion overall.

Paul Walker's younger brother, Cody Walker, remembers the Fast & Furious star's generosity

Speaking to PEOPLE at a fundraising event for Reach Out Worldwide, Paul Walker’s younger brother, Cody Walker, remembered how generous his brother was with his time and money.

“Aside from acting, his daughter [Meadow] and ROWW were the most important things in his life, hands down,” Cody said of the organization, which Paul founded.

As Cody said to PEOPLE, Paul kept his generosity under the radar and didn’t “want any recognition for it.”

“After Paul passed, there were a lot of unknowns … because Paul was such a huge factor behind it. He was the sole contributor. He just paid for everything,” Cody said.

Cody and his brother, Caleb Walker, joined the cast of Furious 7 to help complete Paul’s scenes after his death in November of 2013. Cody admitted during the premiere that he was nervous to see the finished product, but that Paul would have been happy with the result.

“It’s bittersweet, but I think Paul would be proud,” he said to PEOPLE.

Fast and Furious 7 wrap party reunites Paul Walker’s brothers

The cast of 'Fast and Furious 7' have finally finished filming and celebrated the end of the shooting stage in style. The shoot for 'Fast and Furious 7' has been notoriously challenging, so this was undoubtedly a party where a lot of steam could be let off. Since Paul Walker unexpectedly and tragically died in November 2013, the production has been faced with huge obstacles in order to get it completed.

Now that the filming is complete, director James Wan and his stars had a whopping three wrap parties to commemorate the end of the shoot. Paul Walker's brothers Cody and Caleb, who have been helping out completing the film, were snapped with the stars and the director as they all made merry this weekend. Despite the joy of completing filming, there was also obviously some sadness as the cast remembered their deceased co-star.

Tyrese Gibson

Taking to the photo sharing social network site Instagram, Tyrese posted a picture of himself with Cody and Caleb Walker as well as director James Wan. The message accompanying the photo says: '#Fast7 Wrap Party........ Emotional and bittersweet..... In the end you always got #Family @CodyWalker Caleb Walker and Director Great.... James Wan...... Through prayers and determination and moving forward inspired by my heart Paul Walker we got through..... The BEST CAST AND CREW IN THE WORLD.... The fans and supporters around the world... We LOVE YOU...... I wanna dedicate this moment to my niece Meadow Walker.... Uncle Ty loves you..... April 3rd the were gonna unleash this magic on the world................ I miss you heart.... I miss you P-Dub!!!!'

Cody Walker

Paul Walker's brother Cody also posted a picture of himself with Tyrese, saying: "That's a wrap baby! Look at those teeth!' He also mentioned the charity which Paul Walker started, 'Reach Out WorldWide'. Cody and Caleb Walker have been used in the completion of many scenes that were not yet filmed at the time of Paul Walker's death.

James Wan

After Justin Lin, the director of the last four 'Fast and Furious' films failed to return to the franchise, a new director was chosen to replace him. 'Saw' director James Wan stepped in for 'Fast and Furious 7' and has clearly had a tough time with the unexpected delays and changes caused by Paul Walker's tragic death. Finally finishing the filming part of making the movie on Friday, James Wan tweeted on Sunday: 'Great wrap-party tonight w the Fast7 crew. Never had 3 wrap-parties for one movie before. But nice way to say thankyou and goodbye. #F7' After such a taxing and emotional journey, I wonder if James Wan will consider returning for 'Fast and Furious 8'.

Will Fast and Furious 7 be Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s last?

While the cast and crew are celebrating the end of production on what has been a very tough shoot for all involved, it seems that one major star may not be returning for more action. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson entered the franchise in 'Fast Five' and gave the series a serious injection of more muscle and testosterone. Now after three films as Agent Hobbs, it appears that 'Fast and Furious 7' could be his last.

According to The Toronto Sun, the wrestler turned actor responded with 'I don't know' when he was asked if he would return for 'Fast and Furious 8'. Most franchise fans will agree that Agent Hobbs has been an awesome addition to the cast and losing him would be a great shame going forward.

On 'Fast and Furious 7'

Despite the disastrous death of Paul Walker, midway through filming, the production resumed and director James Wan has managed to complete shooting of the film. Johnson is happy that the film has been completed, saying that 'I think Paul would have wanted that. In fact, I know Paul would have wanted that.' He added that he believes that 'this instalment is going to be a special one - for a lot of reasons, but especially in the wake of Paul's death.' Paul Walker's two brothers Cody and Caleb stepped in to help complete the film and it seems that Walker's character Brian is to be retired, thus explaining his absence from future films in the franchise.

On 'Fast and Furious 8'

If 'Fast and Furious 7' makes as much money as the previous instalment, then there is absolutely no doubt that there will be further entries in the franchise. Whether Agent Hobbs will be in them is another matter. Johnson says 'the reason I say, 'I don't know,' is because you don't want to think too far into the future. But especially, I think because this is the last one with Paul, it would be a good way to go out. It feels good.'

On Agent Hobbs

Johnson also mentioned his pride in bringing the badass Agent Hobbs to the big screen and his joy at the reception the character got. On his experience playing the character he said, 'It's been fantastic. And I've got to tell you this, one of the coolest things to experience as an actor with a big franchise is when you test the movie to an audience and you wonder how the audience is going to respond to your character.' He also boasted that when Hobbs was introduced in 'Fast Five', he was the 'highest-testing character. And he was the highest-testing character in Fast 6. People really responded. And I hope they respond to Fast 7'. Anticipation could not be higher for the seventh film in the franchise so I'm sure that if this is Johnson's last, then he will most certainly be going out with a bang!

Vin Diesel talks completing Fast and Furious without Paul Walker

'Fast and Furious 7' has not been an easy film to make. With Paul Walker tragically dying in a car crash during a break in filming, serious adjustments had to be made in order to complete the film. The death of his co-star certainly took its toll on leading man Vin Diesel, who has spoken out about the hardship he endured while completing 'Fast and Furious 7'.

When Walker died in November of last year, the production had to be shut down while arrangements for a way to go forward were made. These included rewriting the script and drafting in Walker's two brother Cody and Caleb to help out in completing Paul's unfinished scenes. Vin Diesel and the rest of the cast were given a short period in which to mourn their lost co-star, but were soon back to work on the film. The loss of Paul Walker will be most felt by his real family, but the 'Fast and Furious' family have also spoken about their shock and sadness at the loss of their friend.

Challenges

Going back to work without Paul Walker must have been a gruelling experience for the cast and crew. Speaking to Access Hollywood on the red carpet for his latest film 'Guardians of the Galaxy', Diesel said 'It was, needless to say, the hardest movie I've ever done, I remember when the tragedy happened, my mother said to me, "It's not fair that you have to mourn in front of the world". What's even harder is to mourn and simultaneously that the person is next to you, so every time you turn to whoever's sitting in that chair you see not Paul'. Having Walker's brothers on set must have been a very mixed blessing, giving the cast a sense of closure but also reminding them of their beloved brother.

Completion

Nevertheless, despite how hard it may have been, Diesel is happy the film was completed. He sees 'Fast and Furious 7' as being about the spirit of family and offering a tribute to Walker. He said, 'the good thing is, because we took all the time, the movie is a true testament to everyone coming together and wanting to honor both the saga and our brother, and there's something very beautiful about that. I think 'Fast 7' wins Best Picture, whether we want to or not!'.

Moving on

Putting the past behind him, Diesel also mentioned the joy he got from playing Groot in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. This will be another huge franchise for Diesel to be a part of, where he is voicing a tree like creature in the science fiction space saga from Marvel. On the red carpet, he told Access Hollywood that 'I'm really fortunate that I have both of these movies and there's something very, very healing about playing a character like Groot that celebrates life after a tragedy like the one that happened'. Paul Walker's character is expected to be retired during 'Fast and Furious 7' but the franchise is likely to continue. It remains to be seen if Diesel will be so committed to making 'Fast and Furious 8' without his lost friend.

Fast & Furious Franchise Has Always Tried To Up The Ante With Casting, According To Universal Chairman

After the tragic death of Paul Walker, the future of the Fast and Furious franchise seemed up in the air — at least, in the minds of the fans. Although, the official announcement of a Fast and Furious 8 release date put that one to rest pretty quickly. After all, Furious 7 has made some serious moolah. According to Universal, the franchise can continue to thrive, even in light of Walker’s passing.

Donna Langley, Universal Picture’s chairman, recently spoke during a Q&A at The Hollywood Reporter’s ninth annual Power Lawyer’s breakfast. While discussing the future of the studio and the upcoming films, she addressed the initial concern over the F&F continuation and Walker’s death. He brought something very unique and very special to the franchise, but we've always tried to up the ante both with the casting and what the movies are about.

The Furious 7 tribute to Walker at the end of the film gave his character, Brian O’Conner, a touching sendoff. He left behind his fast and furious lifestyle to focus on his family with Mia. It’s unclear if actress Jordana Brewster will return for Fast and Furious 8, though, harkening back to Langley’s words, new faces are always popping in and out of these films.

Though Fast and Furious 6 performed extremely well at the box office, the fate of Furious 7 seemed in doubt in light of Walker. The actor tragically died in a car accident in November of 2013, which halted production on the fast-tracked sequel as his family, friends, co-workers and fans mourned his passing. Afterwards, Universal and director James Wan met to discuss the movie's next steps. With the help of Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb, they were able to finish the film and make it the highest-grossing installment of the franchise.

When Furious 7 dominated the box office during its three-day opening weekend, the numbers were hard to ignore. And when it stayed as the #1 movie in America for a few weeks, a sequel seemed all but assured. Then came the $1 billion crossing at the box office, a feat which less than 20 movies to date can brag about. Franchise star Vin Diesel also began teasing where the world of F&F might take the audience next. Actually, he name-dropped New York in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. Diesel has become such a cash cow for studio that he can essentially star in whatever he damn well pleases (e.g. The Last Witch Hunter, that other Riddick sequel, and the rumored Hannibal movie). So with his name already attached to a potential Fast and Furious 8, on top of the franchise-high success of Furious 7, there was no question about it.

Fast and Furious 8 is scheduled to open in theaters on April 14, 2017.

Fast & Furious 8 May Be The End Of The Line

Furious 7 was a massive hit for Universal. It topped the box office and quickly became the highest-grossing Fast and Furious movie so far. Though these numbers essentially mean another sequel will be green lit, how far will the studio ride this cash cow? A new statement from the film’s director, James Wan, hints that we might not see any more films beyond Fast and Furious 8.

Wan recently spoke with The Daily Beast about his time directing Furious 7 and what the future holds for his career. Despite the big numbers his installment pulled, he’s unsure of whether he’ll return for Fast and Furious 8, and even suggests Justin Lin should return to direct. But it’s his final words that seem to hint at the future of the franchise in general.

I think it’s a great idea for Justin [Lin] to come back. ... Justin had such a big part to do with where this series has gone, it would be amazing if he closed it out.

"Closed it out"? Is he implying that Fast and Furious 8 could be the end of the franchise? It doesn’t wholly seem that way, though his word choice is interesting. The Daily Beast notes that Wan has "no doubt" Universal will move ahead with more Fast and Furious sequels. "Sequels," as in plural, being the keyword here, though it doesn’t seem like Wan will return to the driver’s seat. He’s got The Conjuring 2 in the works and he’s rumored to be eyed for the Aquaman movie, and the Fast and Furious films require a lot of his time to make.

Previously, Universal said that they planned on making at least three more sequels after Furious 7. Their official stance was, "if people keep seeing them, we’ll keep making them." And right now people are definitely seeing them. So, despite Wan’s words, I wouldn’t expect an eight installment to be it’s last.

Though details on Fast and Furious 8 are still under wraps, Vin Diesel has already begun teasing the sequel. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor said that the story will take the crew to New York City, while the original ending was meant to set up connections to the future plot. In light of the tragic death of Paul Walker, James Wan and the studio changed the ending to accommodate a tribute to their fallen comrade. After Walker’s death in a car accident in November 2013, the future of the franchise was left in doubt. Though, Universal believes they can still further develop new films.

Fast & Furious 7 Originally Had A Different Ending Before Paul Walker Died

Those of us who watched Furious 7 in theaters this past weekend were treated to a touching tribute to the late Paul Walker at the end. Director James Wan and his crew used a combination of CGI, Wiz Khalifa’s "See You Again" and a montage of scenes from all the Fast and Furious films to give their brother a proper sendoff. Though this moment brought many a tear to audiences around the world, Wan recently opened up about the ending that was originally planned prior to Walker’s tragic death.

Speaking with Collider, Wan said that the ending had originally served a much different purpose.

The original ending of Furious 7 was setting up, you know, the bigger world of where the Fast and Furious franchise could go into. And that’s obviously very smart of them to think so. But when the tragedy happened, all of that became irrelevant. So it did not matter anymore, all of that stuff. And to the studio’s credit, they did not push for that. They realized how important it was to make a movie that finishes and that just outright is a tribute to Paul Walker. So I give them a lot of credit for being bigger than that and going along with this ending that is the right ending to go with.

Walker was taken from the world too soon after a car accident in 2013. The actor had already filmed the majority of his scenes, which prompted the release to be pushed out of 2014 and the studio utilizing various methods to finish production. Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb, were enlisted to help finish his remaining scenes, and CGI was used to bring Walker back for the Furious 7 ending. If you haven’t seen it, get a tissue, because Universal released the music video for "See You Again" that features footage from the scene.

As Walker’s co-star and on-screen wife Jordana Brewster told HuffPost Live, none of the cast members were sure they’d return to the franchise following the death. So far, Furious 7 has performed better than expected at the box office, becoming the Fast and Furious film with the highest-grossing opening weekend and taking in the most dough of any film with an early Thursday premiere. Fast and Furious 8 seems like a sure thing, but Brewster is still unsure whether she would return as Mia. For now, she’s leaving it up to the fans. Diesel, on the other hand, has already begun teasing where the next installment will go. Though it’s not official yet, start prepping for some New York City street action.

Paul Walker Biography

Paul Walker was an American actor who came to fame in movies such as Varsity Blues and became well-known for his starring role in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Synopsis

Born in California in 1973, Paul Walker made his big-screen debut in the 1986 horror spoof Monster in Your Closet. After appearing in several television shows in the 1990s, including Charles in Charge, Who's the Boss? and The Young and the Restless, Walker gained attention with a role in the 1999 film Varsity Blues, and his TV days were officially behind him. After working in teen movies such as She's All That and The Skulls, Walker got his breakthrough role in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, which would become his star vehicle and keep him busy through four sequels and a short prequel. The Fast and the Furious franchise established Walker as an action-film mainstay, and he went on to appear in several films in the genre, including Takers, Hours and Vehicle 19. Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013, at age 40.

Early Years

Born on September 12, 1973, in Glendale, California, Paul Walker appeared in front of the camera at a young age, modeling and acting in television shows such as Charles in Charge, Highway to Heaven and Who's the Boss. In 1986, he made his film debut in the horror spoof Monster in the Closet while also landing a recurring role on TV's Throb. After high school, Walker attended various California community colleges, but he dove into acting full-time in 1993, taking a role in the soap opera The Young and the Restless. After a handful of TV guest roles and the lead in Tammy and the T-Rex, Walker starred in the family comedy Meet the Deedles and left his TV career behind for good. Walker's next role was a big one for his career: He appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in the critically acclaimed, high-concept Pleasantville. From that point on, Walker found himself in starring roles in such late-1990s films as She's All That, Varsity Blues and The Skulls—all pitched at a teen audience which helped turn Walker into a heartthrob.

The Role of a Lifetime

In 2001, Walker's career hit overdrive when he landed a leading role alongside up-and-comer Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious. A film that paid homage to road films of the 1970s, The Fast and the Furious brought Walker to new heights of fame on the way to box-office receipts of more than $200 million. Two years later, the franchise was back with its first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Walker was again along for the ride. The film's gross was even larger than the first, and a bona fide hit series was under way. Walker then appeared in a few more action-oriented movies, including Timeline (2003), Into the Blue (2005) and Running Scared (2006), while also signing on to appear in the ensemble drama Noel (2004) and the children's adventure movie Eight Below (2006). Walker also showed his range as an actor in the 2006 war drama Flags of Our Fathers, directed by Clint Eastwood. He continued to take on more action movie roles in The Death and Life of Bobby Z (2007), Takers (2010) and Fast Five (2011)—the third installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. In 2012, Walker signed on to film Fast & Furious 6 (2013), keeping the series' momentum going. While not filming, Walker was active in Reach Out Worldwide, a nonprofit organization he formed in 2010 to bring aid to regions devastated by natural disasters.

Tragic Death

Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013 at the age of 40. Walker was in Santa Clarita, California to attend a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He was reportedly in the passenger seat of a Porsche when his friend who was driving lost control, crashing the vehicle into a tree. The car was engulfed in flames and both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. At the time of his death, Walker had finished Brick Mansions and was working on Fast & Furious 7. Brick Mansions was released in 2014 and Fast & Furious 7 premiered in April 3, 2015 to huge box office returns. In March 2015, co-star Vin Diesel named his new baby daughter Pauline after his friend.

EXCLUSIVE: Death of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker was 'solely due to the actions of his driver friend': Porsche makes claims in lawsuit after widow alleged suspension was to blame

Porsche have hit back at a lawsuit claiming negligence and poor design caused the 2013 crash that killed Paul Walker, saying the sole cause of the accident was the dangerous driving of the man behind the wheel, Roger Rodas. The luxury car-maker is demanding the lawsuit, which was filed by Kristine Rodas - the widow of Roger Rodas - be thrown out of court. Mrs Rodas filed the suit last year, claiming the $500,000 red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT her husband was driving, along with Walker as passenger, had a faulty suspension. She claimed Rodas tried to keep the car on the road, but could not regain control. She also claimed that a 'properly functioning crash cage' would have prevented the deaths.
The car crashed into a concrete lamppost and two trees in Valencia, California, on November 30, 2013, killing both Rodas and Walker. Mrs Rodas also blames Porsche for the car exploding on impact, claiming the vehicle lacked a proper 'crash cage' and a 'racing fuel cell.' Furthermore, she accused Porsche of ignoring multiple fatal crashes that occurred in the model and never took steps to warn their customers. She filed the federal lawsuit for damages due to their actions However, on March 30, Porsche fired back at the Rodas lawsuit, claiming they are not at fault for her husbands death, and it was solely the result of his own actions while driving their car The car company denies all allegations the car model had defects or that they were aware of them.

Crash: The Porsche crashed into a concrete lamppost and two trees in Valencia, California, on November 30, 2013, killing both Rodas and Walker Porsche is demanding the lawsuit be dismissed and Rodas be awarded not a dime from her legal battle. They state that 'Roger Rodas death, and all other injuries or damages claimed, were the result of Roger Rodas' own comparative fault'. They also say Rodas knowingly and voluntarily assumed all risk, perils and danger in respect to the operation of the Porsche Carrera GT, and that 'he choose to conduct himself in a manner so as to expose himself to the dangers while operating the vehicle'. The company also says the car was altered following the original sale, and that the alterations contributed to the deadly crash.

When Kristine Rodas filed the lawsuit last year, TMZ reported she claimed the fuel cell prevents fuel from igniting upon impact and is a feature often found in race cars. Kristine claims that Porsche did not warn customers of multiple fatal crashes that have happened in the Carrera GT. She quotes them as saying the model is 'as close to a racecar as we will ever get'. Kristine is suing Porsche for negligence, wrongful death and product liability, TMZ reported, adding that she has hired Hollywood lawyer Mark Geragos.

Paul Walker's Brothers Will Help James Wan Finish Fast & Furious 7

Universal Studios today confirmed that the brothers of late actor Paul Walker will be used by director James Wan to bring Fast & Furious 7 to a close. This has been speculated for a while, basically ever since Walker died in a tragic car accident while the production was on hiatus. Rumors swirled that Wan and the studio would need to rely on some form of CGI to complete scenes that Walker hadn’t yet shot. Now, in a statement (acquired by ComingSoon), Universal reveals that Walker’s siblings will be used… and explains why that is relevant to this film series: A Note to the Fans of FAST & FURIOUS The FAST & FURIOUS saga is about family. The characters are connected by the bond of family, and it is how all of us who have worked together for more than thirteen years feel about each other. It certainly defines how we feel about our fans. Our family experienced an unthinkable shock in November. We had to take time to grieve Paul, the brother we love and lost, and to figure out if we should move on with our film. We came together and all felt the only choice was to continue. We believe our fans want that, and we believe Paul would want that too. Paul had already shot his dramatic scenes and most of his action for FAST & FURIOUS 7, and it’s among the strongest work of his career. We have resumed shooting and now welcome Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, into our FAST family. Caleb and Cody are helping us complete some remaining action for their brother and fill in small gaps left in production. Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us too. We are just under a year away from the release of FAST & FURIOUS 7, and this film is the most important we’ve ever done together. It will allow the character of Brian O’Conner to live on and let us celebrate Paul in his most defining role. We wanted to take a moment to speak to our fans directly and thank you for the love and support you always show us as we resume our work." Fast 7 resumed production earlier this month, while co-star Jordana Brewster recently took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards to pay tribute to her deceased colleague. Wan is racing to meet an April 10, 2015 release date. I believe that Fast fans will give the sequel the benefit of the doubt when it comes to closing the loop that is Brian’s saga. I like the fact that they are using Walker’s brothers. There’s real symmetry in that. What do you think? Source: http://www.cinemablend.com

‘Fast & Furious 7′ Will Retire (Not Kill) Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor

In what is probably the most obvious piece of a news to come out this year (so far), Universal has decided that yes, as most of us surmised, in order to continue with Fast & Furious 7 they need a viable workaround for the late Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor, without hitting too close to Walker’s actual death as a result of a high-speed sports car crash. Hard to do in a Fast & Furious movie. Surprise, surprise, that solution has now been officially settled upon: Brian O’Connor will get a happier ending than Paul Walker did. THR reports that F&F7 director James Wan and writer Chris Morgan are tweaking the script in a way that they can use what footage of Walker they already shot (about half the film), while also creating a send off for Walker’s character Brian that would still allow the franchise to continue. The film has currently been pushed back to April 10, 2015 to allow the cast time to grieve and the necessary changes to be made. I said the following in the immediate aftermath of Walker’s passing, when we were all wondering what was going to happen with the franchise: Maybe things don’t have to be so dark. Maybe Brian and Mia (Jordana Brewster) and their child are all sent off into the sunset to live free and happy while Dom and the rest of the crew continue to deal with threats at their car doors. Maybe the land of movie fantasy offers fans something better than the harsh reality of life did. Maybe we all could use something a little more uplifting as we say goodbye to an actor whose character was an icon for a generation of moviegoers. One can only hope…
Recent rumors have pointed to Paul’s little brother Cody Walker possibly filling in for some of the stunt-heavy moments in the film (a lot of the big set pieces haven’t been shot yet), and this “Brian goes into the sunset” scenario could still utilize that option. In short: since the film revolves around Jason Statham’s villain looking for payback for the events of Fast & Furious 6, Brian could be involved in the early part of the film until danger hits too close, before he, Dom and Co. finally opt to do the responsible thing and send Brian and Mia off to live safe with their son. That’s really the best of all worlds. Fans get one last outing with Walker in his most iconic role; the franchise can continue without detriment to the part 7 storyline; and nobody has to be reminded of the grisly reality of things, nor feel like Walker’s memory has been disrespected. Here’s how ‘Furious 7’ completed unfinished Paul Walker scenes

Halfway through the filming of “Furious 7,” – currently a box office hit in cinemas world wide –Paul Walker tragically passed away in a car accident. His unfinished scenes were left in the hanging, with the directors left with the decision to wither scrap the movie or to continue with changes to the original plot. However, with the help of Walkers’ brothers, Cody and Caleb, and computer-generated imagery (CGI), the film was completed and dedicated to the deceased actor. With the use of particular lighting and certain camera angles, his brothers could act as body doubles, and together made a spitting image of the late Paul Walker.

Sorry Transformers, Furious 7 Just Shattered Your Impressive Global Box Office Record

Furious 7 is now the new reigning king of the global box office. The high-octane action movie just surpassed Transformers: Age of Extinction as the highest grossing film in China, and it has only been 15 days. According to The Hollywood Reporter, barely two weeks after opening in China, Furious 7 has already grossed over $2 billion yuan, the local currency. This positions the latest chapter in the Fast & Furious franchise as the newly crowned highest grossing film in China, a top spot previously was held by Age of Extinction. How exactly does that translate to in U.S. dollars, and does it mean big bucks to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars? Yes it does. Furious 7 has grossed over $325.8 million in China, while the previous ruler of the Chinese box office, Age of Extinction, earned just $7 million less, with $319 million. Both movies are franchise films with highly successful track records. It’s possible that two factors are contributing to the success of Furious 7. First and foremost, the tragic passing of Paul Walker, who was killed in a car accident while on break from filming the seventh installment of the franchise. Furious 7 is dedicated to the late actor, with a touching tribute in the final moments giving fans a well deserved tribute to the performer who helped build the franchise name to what it is today. Fans, new and old, are undeniably responding to his loss by supporting one of Walker’s last films. Also, and perhaps more trivial in nature, is the irrefutable success of franchise films in general. Moviegoers have responded to franchises like Transformers and the Fast & Furious, because they have become invested in them over multiple movies. Critics may enjoy attacking the screenplays or other aspects of these products, but what really matters by and large is the fans, and they love franchises, which is why movies like Furious 7 continue to see higher and higher ticket sales with each subsequent film. If this is indeed the case, we are likely to see yet another franchise film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, surpass Furious 7 very soon, although there is the undeniable weight of the first factor likely contributing to the success of the film. It is likely that Furious 7 will continue its reign as the king of the box office in China for the time being. Even accounting for the debut of Avengers: Age of Ultron taking a bit out of ticket sales, the Fast & Furious film will probably hold onto the top spot for at least another several weeks, at which point the other franchise film will likely catch up and take over first place.

Fast & Furious 7: What We Know So Far

The Villain

Now that Fast & Furious 7 is back on track, fans can begin to wonder what they’re actually going to get in the story. While we all will be heading into the theaters with a heavy heart as we prepare to say goodbye to Paul Walker, this series exists to keep us on the edge of our seats with vehicular insanity, and the plot of Fast & Furious 7 shouldn’t detour too far from the formula. If you stayed through the end credits of Fast & Furious 6, you saw the series, finally marry timelines with Tokyo Drift, which existed years AFTER some of the adventures Paul Walker and Vin Diesel were on. We saw the death of racer Han (Sung King), and we learned who killed him. It’s Jason Statham, playing Ian Shaw. He’s furious (pun intended) that Dom (Diesel) and his crew just killed Ian’s brother, Owen Shaw (played by Luke Evans). Ian makes a phone call to Dom as the credits roll, saying, "You don’t know me. You’re about to." In the process, Fast & Furious 7 is completely set up as a revenge epic, where Dominic Toretto (Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and their crew have to contend with the sibling of the criminal they just eliminated. But who is coming along for the ride?

Kurt Russell Talks ‘Fast & Furious 7′ & Why He Won’t Appear in ‘The Expendables’

The tragic death of Paul Walker was a huge blow to his family, friends and fans around the world. The event also necessitated a delay in the release of Fast and Furious 7, the latest installment of Walker’s signature franchise, as Universal Studios, the producers and director James Wan revised the script to include a respectful retirement of Walker’s character, Brian O’Connor. Now that we know their general plan, resulting in a delay of the film until April 2015, news on the Fast and Furious has mostly gone silent. The more recent news has more or less overshadowed many other aspects of the production, including the presence of Death Proof star Kurt Russell, whose as-yet-undisclosed character will be introduced in Fast and Furious 7 with a storyline which will supposedly carry over to the eighth film.

Fast And Furious 8: Everything We Know

Movies that earn more than $1 billion worldwide tend to produce sequels. As such, Furious 8 was a no-brainer. Yet, the ridiculously lucrative Furious 7, ended with real closure, and raised some burning questions. Can the series continue following the death of Paul Walker? Should the series tell more stories in the lives of these now iconic screen characters, or is it time to let the Fast & Furious crew drive off into the sunset on one of the highest notes in franchise history? That conversation is ongoing, but at least we have a definitive answer. Vin Diesel took to the stage of CinemaCon recently and confirmed that Fast & Furious 8 is happening, and will reach theaters on April 14, 2017. It’s definitely happening! But there remain a ton of questions about who will be involved both in front of and behind the camera. Let’s dig in to all that we already know about the upcoming Fast & Furious sequel:
The Kurt Russell Connection It bears repeating that Furious 7 always was going to be the start of a new trilogy of Fast films, though that plan was changed once Paul Walker died. James Wan confirmed that the original ending of Furious 7 would have led to new stories. But the first real hint we got about Fast & Furious 8 came when Vin Diesel appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show and revealed that supreme badass Kurt Russell was added to part seven as a tease for what the crew wanted to do in part eight. And Vin spoke in the present tense, saying that Russell’s covert character, Mr. Nobody, would be a catalyst for events that would follow through in Fast & Furious 8. Now, Walker likely was going to be part of that adventure, and now will not be. But that doesn’t mean the show can’t go on.
The New York Setting In the same clip, Vin Diesel dropped the interesting nugget that the crew would shift their mission for (or against) Mr. Nobody to the streets of New York City. Which, in my opinion, is fantastic. The Fast & Furious movies always have been an L.A.-based franchise, and Diesel delivered on his promise to return the series to Southern California with Furious 7. But a series that has stopped in so many amazing global cities has yet to invade the Big Apple, and I want to see Toretto’s crew try to stay fast in midtown Manhattan traffic. (The "furious" part won’t be difficult. New Yorkers are always mad about something.) In a recent conversation, The Rock told the media that they wanted to give Furious 7 time to breathe, and to succeed, but that they were "up for the challenge" of doing Furious 8. And Diesel chimed in that F8 sounds like "Fate," something he said Walker always believed.
Justin Lin’s Return James Wan was an unusual choice to helm Furious 7 after Justin Lin decided not to come back after directing multiple Fast films. Wan primarily was known as a horror guy, and his lone foray into "action" – the Kevin Bacon drama Death Sentence -- went largely unseen. It’s very possible that Wan could come back to direct a Fast & Furious 8, especially given the success of Furious 7. But a few months back, a story broke on Deadline that Lin would return to the series to direct a multi-part finale. Wan even said in a recent interview that Justin Lin would be the perfect choice to bring the series to a close. This plan still could be in place, though Lin is about to board the U.S.S. Enterprise as the director of Star Trek 3, so Universal might have to put their red-hot series on ice for a bit if they want to wait or Lin’s services. Would that be a good idea?
Lucas Black’s Contract Those paying attention to the Fast & Furious timeline synch couldn’t have been that surprised to see Lucas’ Black’s Tokyo Drift hero, Sean Boswell, return to the screen. Furious 6 revealed that Han was killed by Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), so Dom pitstopped to Tokyo to meet with Sean, get information on this new threat, and bring Han’s body back to Los Angeles for a proper burial. At the time, Black revealed that he had signed up for Fast & Furious parts 7, 8 and 9. Again, plans for the series seem fluid, but if Black was a part of the future story before, I see no reason to think he couldn’t be part of the next two chapters, at least. Drift on!
The Eva Mendes Rumor So far, the Fast & Furious films have made a habit out of bringing familiar faces back into the fold. Michelle Rodriguez was believed to be dead before returning for Fast & Furious 6. We just mentioned Lucas Black, and his presence in Furious 7. So with the timeline realigned now, it makes sense that a recent rumor suggests the return of Eva Mendes’s character, U.S. Customs Agent Monica Fuentes, be brought back into the story. As we learned in Furious 7, Dom and his crew now runs in criminal circles that involve the federal government – or, shadow arms of the government operated by the likes of Mr. Nobody. This could open up several doors for the Furious crew to either have to help Fuentes… or avoid her. Maybe the God’s Eye MacGuffin from the latest movie will put Toretto on Fuentes’ radar? Maybe Mr. Nobody has a new job for Dom? I think Fast & Furious 8 will happen, particularly after Furious 7 just broke the bank. Do you? source: http://www.cinemablend.com/
