While the cast and crew are celebrating the end of production on what has been a very tough shoot for all involved, it seems that one major star may not be returning for more action. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson entered the franchise in 'Fast Five' and gave the series a serious injection of more muscle and testosterone. Now after three films as Agent Hobbs, it appears that 'Fast and Furious 7' could be his last.
According to The Toronto Sun, the wrestler turned actor responded with 'I don't know' when he was asked if he would return for 'Fast and Furious 8'. Most franchise fans will agree that Agent Hobbs has been an awesome addition to the cast and losing him would be a great shame going forward.
On 'Fast and Furious 7'
Despite the disastrous death of Paul Walker, midway through filming, the production resumed and director James Wan has managed to complete shooting of the film. Johnson is happy that the film has been completed, saying that 'I think Paul would have wanted that. In fact, I know Paul would have wanted that.' He added that he believes that 'this instalment is going to be a special one - for a lot of reasons, but especially in the wake of Paul's death.' Paul Walker's two brothers Cody and Caleb stepped in to help complete the film and it seems that Walker's character Brian is to be retired, thus explaining his absence from future films in the franchise.
On 'Fast and Furious 8'
If 'Fast and Furious 7' makes as much money as the previous instalment, then there is absolutely no doubt that there will be further entries in the franchise. Whether Agent Hobbs will be in them is another matter. Johnson says 'the reason I say, 'I don't know,' is because you don't want to think too far into the future. But especially, I think because this is the last one with Paul, it would be a good way to go out. It feels good.'
On Agent Hobbs
Johnson also mentioned his pride in bringing the badass Agent Hobbs to the big screen and his joy at the reception the character got. On his experience playing the character he said, 'It's been fantastic. And I've got to tell you this, one of the coolest things to experience as an actor with a big franchise is when you test the movie to an audience and you wonder how the audience is going to respond to your character.' He also boasted that when Hobbs was introduced in 'Fast Five', he was the 'highest-testing character. And he was the highest-testing character in Fast 6. People really responded. And I hope they respond to Fast 7'. Anticipation could not be higher for the seventh film in the franchise so I'm sure that if this is Johnson's last, then he will most certainly be going out with a bang!
